Target Population

For persons with an emerging or established psychiatric condition, we provide psychiatric rehabilitation. Primarily, we serve adults living with an Axis I psychotic or mood disorder, and/or an Axis II personality disorder, as well as persons with dual diagnosis of mental illness and substance disorder. Psychiatric rehabilitation is a process requiring emotional engagement, cognitive skill building, and an initial capacity to experience the stressors of change. A Global Assessment Functioning (GAF) of 50 or above is optimally required to ensure outcomes for the client. Typical consumers using our services experience moderate to severe disability performing in primary capacities of daily living (treatment compliance, ADL’s, success integration to work or school or home life) secondary to psychiatric symptoms.

Our Referral Base

Family members of present or past clients are our most frequent referrers of other families and individuals to our services. O’Connor Associates, LLC also serves as consulting care managers to the regional hospital and community psychiatry providers. Our referrals are generally spilt between persons a) being discharged from a partial hospitalization following an acute event (relapse or initial event) and b) persons utilizing outpatient treatment but unable to rebuild role functioning, achieve a daily quality of life, or unable to live productive, well lives without constructive non-family support.
We consult regularly in discharge and aftercare plans for patients using all our regional inpatient, PHP and/or IOP programs, including the following regional hospitals: Sibley Memorial, Georgetown University, St Joseph’s (Baltimore), Johns Hopkins (Baltimore), Sheppard Pratt (Baltimore), Dominion, Mt. Vernon, Washington Adventist, Washington Hospital Center, National Rehabilitation Hospital, Suburban, and the Psychiatric Institute of Washington
