Dear Gay, Lesbian & Bisexual & Transgender Community,

I am writing to ask for your Vote and Support for my candidacy for Ward 2 City Councilman, on Election Day, Tuesday September 12.

For the last eighteen years, as a long term resident of Ward 2, I have been an openly gay activist working on your behalf, lobbying and supporting gay, lesbian and bisexual and transgender causes and issues. I was first elected in 1990, as an openly gay candidate for the Advisory Neighborhood Commission, then re-elected in 1992, as Vice-Chairman of ANC 2F, Logan Circle. I have also been active with various political and social gay and lesbian organizations. I was appointed to the Mayor's Office and the HIV & AIDS Community Planning Committee in 1995, and assisted with the Ryan White Care Act Funding, I was also instrumental in the distribution of HIV & AIDS services.

During my tenure as an ANC commissioner, I was able to work on some wonderful projects like the development of the Whitman Walker Clinic's Elizabeth Taylor Medical Facility, located at 14th & R Streets, NW. For years, I have participated and supported many causes, including the annual AIDS WALK, AIDS RIDE and Capitol Pride Festivals, to name a few. I will continue to be supportive of the many gay and lesbian owned and operated businesses in our city that we so much rely on. Much work still needs to be done, both in our community and city government.

I will continue to work on your behalf for all issues including, gay, lesbian, and bisexual and transgender issues. I need your vote, please come out and vote and support our efforts on Tuesday, September 12. Encourage your neighbors to vote, arrive with five. Vote for John Fanning, #3 on the ballot!
